Porsche unveiled a prototype of its new inductive charging system at the 2025 IAA Mobility show in Munich. The technology will debut with the all-electric Porsche Cayenne, which is scheduled for its world premiere at the end of 2025. The system allows drivers to charge their vehicles by parking over a wireless charging floor plate, eliminating the need for plugging in cables.

The inductive charging system operates at 11 kW and uses a “one-box” design, meaning all components except the power supply cable are integrated into the floor plate. This removes the need for a separate wall box or control unit. To begin charging, the Cayenne is parked above the plate, and energy is transferred contactlessly over a distance of about four to six inches. The vehicle automatically lowers its ride height to optimize alignment.

For safety, the floor plate includes a motion detector and foreign object detection system that stops charging if interference is detected. The technology is integrated into the My Porsche app, allowing drivers to monitor charging status remotely. Additionally, a special view within the vehicle’s Surround View parking system assists with positioning over the plate. Once the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is activated, charging begins automatically. The system also supports existing convenience features, such as departure timers and cabin preconditioning.

Porsche Wireless Charging will first launch in Europe in 2026, with availability in other markets to follow.

As part of the demonstration, Porsche showcased a Cayenne prototype wrapped in fluorescent paint that illuminates when electricity flows through the system. The coating features over 25 ultra-thin layers, including conductive primers, electrodes, insulating layers, and electroluminescent material. The effect, designed by Style Porsche, displays blue and violet tones in specific illuminated sections while leaving other areas dark.

The prototype with the fluorescent finish is on display at the IAA Mobility show from September 9 to 14, 2025, in Munich.
