The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, along with its Weissach Package variant, has recently achieved new records for electric series-production cars on prominent race tracks, highlighting Porsche’s engineering excellence and the vehicle’s outstanding performance. Development driver Lars Kern set a record lap time of 1:27.87 at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California, making the Taycan Turbo GT the fastest electric series-production car at this track. Additionally, Kern established a new class record at the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:07.55 in a pre-production model of the same vehicle, surpassing previous records, including his own in a Taycan Turbo S.
Porsche attributes these accomplishments to the Taycan’s holistic design approach, which integrates acceleration, braking, aerodynamics, and handling. The Taycan Turbo GT models, especially with the Weissach Package, embody this philosophy through a combination of advanced powertrain technology, aerodynamic design, and lightweight construction that enhance driving dynamics and enjoyment.
The Taycan Turbo GT’s powertrain includes enhanced power electronics and a rear-axle motor that increase overall system power, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds, or 2.1 seconds with the Weissach Package. The powertrain features a pulse inverter capable of 900 amps, up from 600 amps in the Turbo S, improving power and torque. Silicon carbide in the pulse inverters further enhances efficiency by reducing switching losses.
Lightweight construction is a key factor in the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance. Porsche has employed carbon fiber components and innovative techniques to reduce weight, improve aerodynamics, and enhance braking performance. The Weissach Package adds features like a fixed rear wing to increase downforce.
The Taycan Turbo GT is designed for track performance, including “Attack Mode” for a temporary power boost optimized for track use. The vehicle’s suspension and braking systems are tailored for dynamic driving, with performance tires and lightweight ceramic brakes as standard features.
Aesthetically, the Taycan Turbo GT and Weissach Package variant include exclusive design elements and color options, emphasizing the car’s sporty nature with materials such as carbon fiber. The interior features sporty Race-Tex materials and Adaptive Sports Seats Plus, along with other premium details geared towards performance enthusiasts.
The 2025 Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package are priced starting at $230,000, excluding taxes and fees, with deliveries expected to begin in the summer of 2024. These models represent the pinnacle of Porsche’s electric vehicle performance, combining advanced engineering with a comprehensive design approach aimed at delivering an exceptional driving experience.
