Due to the UAW strike disrupting the fall schedule, Ram Trucks has decided to unveil its 2025 lineup earlier than planned. Among the key changes for 2025, the most notable is the introduction of the Ramcharger, a new plug-in, range-extended version of the Ram 1500 REV electric truck. This model is not a hybrid in the traditional sense, as the gasoline engine does not directly drive the wheels but serves as a generator to extend the electric range.
The Ramcharger features a 92 kWh battery pack providing approximately 145 miles of all-electric range. It is supported by a 130 kW onboard generator, which is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can recharge the battery, maintain its charge, or supply power to the electric motors. The truck includes a 27-gallon fuel tank that uses regular unleaded gasoline, offering a combined range of approximately 690 miles.
The Ramcharger supports fast charging with a DCFC connector capable of 145 kW, adding 50 miles of range in 10 minutes. It can also be recharged at home using a level 2 EVSE at up to 11 kW.
Powering the Ramcharger are a 250 kW front motor and a 238 kW rear motor, generating 663 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. The truck boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of up to 2,625 pounds, though towing or hauling will reduce overall range.
The Ramcharger will feature three primary battery modes: Electric+, E-Save, and Eco. Electric+ prioritizes electric driving, while E-Save and Eco manage the balance between battery and generator power. The new top-tier Tungsten trim will be available, featuring a 14.5-inch touch screen with Uconnect 5 and an optional 10.25-inch passenger screen. The truck also supports using a phone as a key and offers a range of safety and driver-assist features.
The Ramcharger will use the STLA Frame architecture, which supports both the full BEV Ram REV and the gasoline-generator Ramcharger. The Ram lineup for 2025 will also see the discontinuation of the Hemi V8, with a new RHO model expected to fit between the Rebel and the TRX.
The Ramcharger and the Ram REV are expected to be available towards the end of 2024, while gasoline-only models will be available in the first quarter of 2024.
