Rolls-Royce has introduced a one-of-one commission known as the Spectre Lunaflair. This bespoke vehicle was created for a specific client from the United States and draws inspiration from a lunar halo, a natural optical phenomenon that occurs when light from the moon passes through ice particles in cirrus clouds, resulting in a technicolor ring around the moon.
The unique aspect of this vehicle is its holographic paint finish, which was developed over the course of one year. The process involved extensive trials with paint chemistry, application timings, and base coat formulations. The final result includes seven layers of lacquer, featuring a pearlescent coat with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminum. This combination provides a metallic effect in low light and shifts to a rainbow technicolor appearance under bright sunlight.
The Spectre Lunaflair’s concept was partially influenced by the Phantom Syntopia, a previous one-off Bespoke project unveiled in 2023. This earlier vehicle featured an iridescent finish with color-shifting pigments, which inspired the commissioning client to pursue a lighter, more luminous version that captures the essence of a lunar halo.
In addition to the distinctive paint, the Spectre Lunaflair features a fully bespoke interior. The color scheme incorporates Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink tones, mirroring the colors seen in a lunar halo. This palette is applied to the seats, doors, and the Starlight Headliner, extending to the dual-tone steering wheel, which has a Navy outer and Arctic White inner side.
Only one Spectre Lunaflair will be produced, and the unique Lunaflair paint finish is reserved exclusively for the commissioning client. Photography of the vehicle was captured in the middle of the United States on the night of September 17th, during a Supermoon event, which coincided with a partial lunar eclipse.
