Scout Motors has unveiled two production-intent concept vehicles, the Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra truck, marking the brand’s return to the market. The vehicles were designed and engineered in Michigan and will be manufactured in South Carolina, creating over 4,000 jobs. These vehicles aim to honor the spirit of the original Scout models produced by International Harvester from 1961 to 1980, which were known for their off-road capabilities and utility.

The Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra truck are built on a new body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle. This platform is expected to support over 10,000 pounds of towing capacity for the Terra truck and more than 7,000 pounds for the Traveler SUV. The vehicles will also have nearly 2,000 pounds of payload capacity. The vehicles are designed to accommodate up to 35-inch tires and will have over one foot of ground clearance and nearly three feet of water fording capability. Both vehicles will come equipped with front and rear mechanical lockers and competitive approach and departure angles.

Scout Motors will offer both fully electric and range-extended variants of the vehicles. The fully electric models are expected to provide up to 350 miles of range, while the range-extended versions, which include a gas-powered generator, could offer more than 500 miles of range. The vehicles will feature electric drive units on each axle, allowing for four-wheel-drive capabilities. They are projected to achieve 0-60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, powered by nearly 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque. Both models will use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and offer 800-volt architecture, 350-kilowatt charging capacity, and bi-directional charging capabilities.

Inside, Scout Motors has focused on creating a tactile experience, using real knobs, switches, and handles. The Scout Traveler SUV will feature a multifunctional console, while the Terra truck will offer a front row bench seat option. Both models will include flexible cargo areas, with the Terra truck featuring a 5.5-foot bed. The vehicles will be equipped with power outlets for various uses, including a 240V outlet in the Terra truck bed.

Scout vehicles will offer a modern software architecture for over-the-air updates and remote diagnostics. A variety of accessories will be available, including off-road bumpers, auxiliary lighting, and power off-boarding solutions, all designed to integrate seamlessly with the vehicle’s systems.

Scout Motors plans to sell directly to consumers through its own sales and service network. Prices for the entry models will start around $50,000 with available incentives, and retail prices are expected to start below $60,000. The company will begin accepting reservations for the Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra truck on October 24, 2024, with a refundable reservation fee of $100. Production is targeted to begin in 2027 at Scout Motors’ new production center in South Carolina.
