Aptera Motors has unveiled its production-ready solar electric vehicle (sEV) at CES 2025, signaling a transition from prototype development to validation vehicles. The debut reflects the company’s progress in advancing energy-efficient transportation and presenting a vehicle designed to minimize reliance on conventional charging.

The vehicle is designed to operate primarily on solar energy, providing up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day under optimal conditions. This capability allows drivers in sunny climates to achieve over 10,000 miles of annual driving without relying on external charging infrastructure. For longer distances, the vehicle offers up to 400 miles of range, which can be replenished in under an hour using traditional charging.

The Aptera sEV incorporates a solar array made up of four panels placed on the hood, dashboard, roof, and hatch. Its body is constructed from carbon fiber sheet molding compound (CF-SMC), a lightweight and durable material that reduces manufacturing complexity by requiring fewer parts compared to traditional vehicles. This streamlined design results in a lightweight structure with enhanced energy efficiency.

During the unveiling, Chris Anthony, Co-CEO of Aptera Motors, highlighted the significance of the event as a milestone for the company and sustainable mobility. He emphasized the years of innovation leading to the development of the sEV and its potential impact on reducing emissions and reliance on grid power.

The Aptera sEV represents an alternative to conventional vehicles that rely on fossil fuels or grid electricity. Its lightweight design and solar-powered energy generation aim to provide a self-sufficient transportation solution for current and future mobility challenges.
