Ford Motor Co. may increase prices on vehicles built starting in May due to ongoing tariffs on automotive imports, according to a memo sent to dealers and obtained by Automotive News.

In the April 16 memo, Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, stated that the company is still evaluating the impact of the tariff policy implemented by President Donald Trump. Frick noted that “certain tariffs are likely to remain in place for at least some time,” and that pricing adjustments may become necessary.

Frick emphasized that Ford would not raise the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) on any vehicle currently in inventory and reaffirmed that the company’s employee pricing offer will remain available through June 2, 2025.

“However, in the absence of material changes to the tariff policy as articulated to date, we anticipate the need to make vehicle pricing adjustments in the future, which is expected to happen with May production,” Frick wrote.

A Ford spokesperson confirmed that any pricing changes would not apply to vehicles already on dealer lots. Vehicles built in May are expected to arrive at dealerships no earlier than late June.

Ford currently imports several models, including the Mustang Mach-E, Bronco Sport, and Maverick, from Mexico. The Lincoln Nautilus is imported from China.

Lincoln President Dianne Craig told Automotive News that Nautilus shipments and sales are continuing, though price increases are “likely” if tariffs remain in effect.

The Trump administration imposed a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles starting April 3. While reciprocal tariffs on many countries were paused as of April 9, vehicle import duties remain in place. Chinese imports, including automobiles, are subject to higher tariffs.

Other automakers have taken varied approaches in response. Mitsubishi has stopped shipping additional inventory to U.S. dealers and is holding vehicles at port to delay tariff impacts. Volvo Cars plans to end U.S. sales of the China-built S90 sedan. Volkswagen has stated it would include an import fee on vehicle window stickers but will hold prices steady through May.

On April 14, President Trump said he is considering potential exemptions to the tariffs to allow automakers more time to shift production to North America. “They need a little bit of time, because they’re going to make them here,” Trump said.
