For a long time, you were able to order an adapter for your Tesla that would allow you to plug into a DCFC station that used a CCS1 connector. This was helpful if you were in an area that didn’t have a Tesla Supercharger available and you needed to charge. People also took advantage of free charging opportunities when Electrify America was performing a hardware upgrade. While it wasn’t the cheapest component in the world, with a retail price of $300, it was a nice security blanket to have in the car with you.

Now, it has been removed from the Tesla website. Which would be odd, considering that CCS1 is still a popular charging standard in the United States, even as most automakers move to NACS. The value proposition might not be as high, but it’s still surprising to see it taken down.

According to Reddit user tps5352, you can still order through the Online Parts Catalog with Part Number 1656565-00-A with the price of $300. Some older cars might still need a compatibility upgrade for it to work, and can be ordered through the Service tab in the Tesla app.

Some Model Y owners also report receiving one, for free, with their new Juniper Model Ys. That is in addition to a J-1772 to NACS adapter for level 2 charging. Perhaps Tesla sees that as a more viable solution — just giving it away to new buyers — than offering it up for sale publicly as more and more stations support NACS.

There could also be a supply issue with making them. Tesla makes the CCS adapters for automakers that have CCS1 connectors built into their vehicles so they can access the Supercharger network (at least they did for a while), so resources might be limited for something like this. As long as you can still order it, nothing is really lost. But if you were looking for it, it’s not as easy to find.

You probably won’t need it, though, now that Tesla Superchargers are joined by Ionna stations and others that offer NACS connectivity.
