Renault has introduced the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, a versatile all-electric vehicle designed to carry forward the legacy of the original Renault 4, first released in the 1960s. This new model was unveiled at the 2022 Paris Motor Show with the aim of combining the timeless appeal of the Renault 4 with modern electric technology.
The Renault 4 E-Tech electric is positioned as a practical and versatile option for both city and rural driving. It features an electric powertrain, offering up to 400 kilometers of range in its 52 kWh battery version and includes a modular layout with a spacious 420-liter boot, flat-folding seats, and a low load sill for enhanced functionality. The car is built on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, which it shares with the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, allowing for cost-effective production without compromising on quality.
In terms of design, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric retains several nods to the original Renault 4, such as a distinctive grille and capsule-shaped rear lights. It also features a modernized look with a raised ground clearance of 18.1 cm, an illuminated grille, and roof bars for added practicality. Additionally, the vehicle is available in several color options, including a new shade called Hauts-de-France Green, paying tribute to its French heritage.
Technologically, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric is equipped with a range of advanced safety and comfort features. It includes the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, level 2 assisted driving, and the Reno virtual assistant, designed to assist drivers with managing the car’s electric functions. The model also offers various driving aids, such as Active Driver Assist and extended traction control for all-terrain capability. Renault has incorporated a bi-directional charging system, which allows the car to act as an energy source, with compatibility for V2G (vehicle-to-grid) and V2L (vehicle-to-load) technologies.
The Renault 4 E-Tech electric is manufactured in Europe at Renault’s Maubeuge plant, with its motor produced at the Cléon facility. The company emphasizes local sourcing, with 75% of its suppliers located within 300 km of the production site, aligning with Renault’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its production process.
This new model is part of Renault’s broader electrification strategy, which aims to make electric vehicles more accessible across Europe. The Renault 4 E-Tech electric is available in two versions: a 90 kW motor paired with a 40 kWh battery, and a 110 kW motor paired with a 52 kWh battery. Charging options include an 11 kW AC charger and a 100 kW DC fast charger for the larger battery version.
Renault has designed the Renault 4 E-Tech electric to appeal to a broad audience, including young families, by offering practicality, advanced technology, and versatility in a compact electric vehicle.
