The i-Force Max hybrid powertrain represents a key advancement for the 4Runner. This system combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with hybrid technology, producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. It delivers an EPA-estimated 24 MPG on the highway, balancing power and efficiency for off-road and on-road applications. This powertrain is standard on the TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum grades and is available on TRD Off-Road and Limited trims.
The standard i-Force engine, available on other trims, provides 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque with an EPA-estimated 26 MPG highway rating. This option ensures strong performance for buyers not opting for the hybrid setup.
The i-Force Max hybrid models offer advanced off-road and towing features, making them versatile for various uses. The Trailhunter trim, powered exclusively by i-Force Max, includes Old Man Emu shocks, a high-mount air intake, and off-road tires. The TRD Pro, also equipped with the hybrid powertrain, features FOX QS3 adjustable shocks and other enhancements aimed at improving rugged capabilities.
