Toyota has announced the reintroduction of the Land Cruiser to the U.S. market for the 2024 model year. The new model combines traditional off-road capabilities with modern design and technology, marking a significant update for the brand.
The 2024 Land Cruiser is built on the TNGA-F global truck platform and features the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which produces 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. This powertrain reflects Toyota’s goal of blending performance with environmental considerations.
In terms of dimensions, the new Land Cruiser is 4.4 inches narrower and 1.2 inches shorter than the previous 200 Series model, enhancing its agility and off-road performance. The design, developed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research studio, focuses on authenticity, reliability, and timelessness while incorporating modern aesthetics.
For off-road capability, the 2024 Land Cruiser includes a double-wishbone front suspension with twin-tube shocks, a multi-link rear suspension with coil springs, and a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a center locking differential and electronically controlled two-speed transfer case. It has a towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds and features an electronic locking rear differential.
The interior of the Land Cruiser offers practical and comfortable options, including heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, a 12.3-inch multimedia monitor, and a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system. Standard connectivity features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Toyota provides over 100 accessories for customization.
Safety features include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which offers Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist.
The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor and an eight-speed transmission, supported by a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. Total system output is 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. Fuel economy estimates will be available closer to the on-sale date.
Initially, Toyota will offer 5,000 units of the Land Cruiser in a First Edition grade with unique two-tone paint colors and additional off-road equipment. Production will take place at Toyota Motor Corporation’s Tahara and Hino plants in Japan, with U.S. availability expected in the spring of 2024. Pricing will start in the mid-$50,000 range.
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser blends traditional ruggedness with modern features, reaffirming Toyota’s commitment to quality, durability, and reliability.
