Yes, the Slate Auto truck ships with a charging cord

In case you missed it, a new car company is on the scene. Called Slate Auto, the EV startup introduced an all-electric, back-to-basics pickup truck with a price starting at under $20,000 with incentives (so probably around $27,000 on the sticker). As you’d expect, it is a stripped-down vehicle with optional accessories to help spruce it up (and add to the company’s bottom line). But one thing you won’t have to spring for is a mobile charging connector.

According to Slate’s website, a level 1 and 2 capable mobile charging cord comes with the Slate. The company claims that you can fully charge the truck in 4 to 8 hours overnight on a 240-volt plug. Those numbers jive with the standard and optional battery pack capacity.

What’s nice is that it’s actually included. Tesla has stopped shipping its cars with a mobile connector, and other automakers like Kia do the same. It’s a cost-cutting measure that is justified by the logic that people will install equipment at home themselves. Even so, a quality home charger is at least $400, and that doesn’t include the cost of installation. Being able to charge right out of the box is appreciated.

The truck will also come with a NACS connector, which is the standard Tesla connector and the system that nearly every automaker has switched to, or will be switching to soon.

The peak DC fast charging rate is 120 kW, and the company is quoting under 30 minutes for a 20% to 80% state of charge.

For a vehicle that can be customized in millions of ways, it’s nice to see the company not cutting a cost corner here.
