ZM Trucks has opened its new U.S. headquarters and assembly facility in Fontana, California. The 9.67-acre site includes a 210,000-square-foot factory floor and is located about 49 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The grand opening event featured factory tours, test drives, and the U.S. debut of the ZM8 commercial truck.
The company, a manufacturer of zero-emission commercial vehicles, relocated its regional headquarters to Fontana as part of its long-term commitment to sustainable transportation solutions in the United States. The event marks a significant step in ZM Trucks’ expansion strategy, following the launch of the T75 terminal tractor earlier this year. The T75 is an electric vehicle designed for logistics and port operations.
ZM Trucks has also announced new U.S. partnerships with companies including Merlin Group and FleetNet. These moves come amid policy uncertainty affecting the electric vehicle market. Federal EV tax credits are scheduled to phase out under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” and a previously frozen $5 billion federal program supporting charging infrastructure has been restarted under revised guidelines. At the same time, recent rollbacks in federal greenhouse gas regulations and changes in trade policies have created further challenges for the industry.
Despite these obstacles, ZM Trucks sees growth potential. The company points to the transportation sector’s contribution of approximately 6.7% to U.S. GDP and nearly 28% of greenhouse gas emissions. By focusing on zero-emission vehicles that aim to deliver lower operating costs compared to diesel alternatives, ZM Trucks intends to expand its role in shaping the U.S. commercial fleet market.
