The Hyundai Ioniq  9 is Hyundai’s flagship three‑row electric SUV and a major leap forward in EV charging performance. With a massive 110.3 kWh battery, advanced ultra‑fast DC charging capability, and a powerful onboard AC charger, the case for a Level 2 home charger is stronger than ever.

Level 1 charging (standard)

Every Ioniq  9 provides a Level 1 charging cable for your standard 120‑volt outlet. Given the 110.3 kWh battery capacity and typical household voltage constraints, the onboard system delivers around 1.4 kW at best. In practical terms, that means it would take roughly 80 hours to fully charge from empty to full on Level 1. At that pace, you’re adding only about 1.4 kWh per hour—or around 3 to 4 miles of range—making Level 1 genuinely impractical for daily use.

Level 2 charging (240 volts)

The Ioniq  9 shines with its robust onboard AC charger, rated at 11 kW. Plugged into a typical 240‑volt, 48‑amp home circuit, you’ll be adding about 11 kW of charging power—which means a full recharge in just 10 hours. Even if your setup only delivers 9.6 kW (common for 40‑amp circuits), you’re still looking at 11.5 hours to go from zero to 100%.

That range of charging is well within an overnight window—plug in after dinner, wake up to a full battery, and you’re ready to go. You also gain flexibility: a couple of hours of charging in the afternoon can provide more than 60 miles of range.

DC fast charging (public)

For on‑the‑go top‑ups, the Ioniq 9 supports DC ultra‑fast charging. It can recharge from 10  percent to 80  percent in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger. That’s elite speed, rivaling top EVs. Plus, with its native NACS port, the Ioniq  9 can directly access Tesla Superchargers—adding a rare and convenient charging advantage.

Final thoughts

If you drive your Ioniq 9 regularly, installing a Level 2 home charger is a no-brainer. The difference between waiting 80 hours on Level 1 and 10 to 11 hours with Level 2 is night and day. Level 2 lets you integrate charging effortlessly into your daily routine—overnight fills, midday top-ups, and flexible scheduling. With the Ioniq 9’s advanced onboard charger and ultra-fast DC capabilities, a Level 2 unit at home ensures you’re ready whenever you need to be.
